This is an extraordinary raw, first person account of the last war in Gaza. As the war begins Mohamed Jabaly picks up his camera and joins an ambulance crew. Watching the horror unfold as the crew speeds to the aftermath of each attack gives him a unique perspective on the heroism of the crew and the suffering of ordinary Palestinians.
Andrew Feinstein, arms trade expert and former ANC activist, speaking to festival director David Gillam at Taliesin Arts Centre Swansea.
Mesmerising and haunting, this intertwines several stories to examine Thailand’s legacy of political repression, all the while giving a thrilling glimpse of cinema’s myriad possibilities. A bold, unusual film that intertwines the lives of a famous political activist, a young documentary filmmaker, a pop star, and a waitress, all of whom were touched by a student massacre.
CASA media present three inspiring short films made with young people in West Wales and Zanzibar and funded by Hub Cymru Africa and Welsh Government. Children from both countries participated in climate change and sustainability workshops as well as film making sessions.
Entirely set in the back of a police truck, this ferociously well-made film paints a fascinating portrait of contemporary Egypt. Both supporters of the Morsi government and anti-Morsi protestors are out on the street demonstrating.
After a sell out screening at Buteown Community Centre in June, we're excited to be returning in October for Black History Month, with a women-only screening of the acclaimed DAUGHTERS OF THE DUST. This film was the first to be made by a Black woman in America, and the inspiration behind Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade.'
Set in 1902, it looks at the lives of three generations of Gullah Geechee women as they prepare to leave their home on the shores of Carolina. The ‘Gullah’, as they are known, are descendants of enslaved people, whose rich language and culture is composed of different West African origins which has survived centuries. Criticially praised for its rich language, use of song, and visual imagery, this is a Black feminist classic, not to be missed.
To kick off the screening, we'll be showing short extracts from Beyonce's critially acclaimed 'Lemonde' which took drew inspiration from Daughters of the Dust.
And we invite all women, as always, to come and join us for what promises to be an inspiring event, with refreshments and discussion.

Gentle/Radical and WOW Film Club are delighted to host their first ‘people’s symposium', bringing together archival films, invited speakers and panel discussion around two key footnotes in British colonial history: the Partition of India in 1947, and the Palestinian 'Nakba' ('Catastrophe') of 1948.
2017 marks the 70th anniversary of Indian Independence, and the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration. On the afternoon of Remembrance Sunday, this symposium invites you to remember less visible tragedies in our colonial history, as they relate to South Asia and the Middle East.

As fiercely talented as he was modest, in 1962 Finnish boxer Olli Mäki swept into national stardom as he trained for a once-in-a-lifetime fight against the World Featherweight Champion. There was only one problem: he had just fallen in love. Inside of the ring, it was Finland vs. the USA, but outside, it was boxing vs. romance.
Based on this true story, Juho Kuosmanen's charming debut feature, The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki, was awarded the Un Certain Regard Prize at the Cannes Film Festival last year. Here Juho reveals why he found Olli Mäki's story so compelling.
Rita Arqueros and Amanda Racktraw read Pablo Neruda's Keeping Quiet at Chapter on our opening evening of WOW Film Festival 2017.
Ranked among the top 10 hidden gems of 2016, film critic Jonathon Romney described The Future Perfect as "A smart, undemonstrative but deeply joyful Argentinian first feature... about a young Chinese woman (Zhang Xiaobin) newly arrived in Buenos Aires and her attempts to learn Spanish. Formally economical, rich in insights about language, culture and the self, and deliciously comic with it."
Bold, brave and brilliant, this wise, sad and funny film captures Cuba at a critical moment in its history. Deserted by his wife, rejected by his lover, and sceptical of the promises of a new Cuba, Sergio feels alone in a brave new world, unable either to leave or to come to terms with the changes after the revolution.

A visual marvel, Hayao Miyazaki's (Spirited Away, Totoro) breathtaking sci-fi/fantasy epic about a nature loving warrior princess brought a new artistic credibility to anime and created the blueprint for Studio Ghibli’s powerful female heroines. A thousand years after the great war, a toxic jungle fiercely guarded by giant insects threatens to engulf the world.
Larraín (Jackie, No) fuses history, legend and fiction to powerful effect in this bold, stunningly inventive detective thriller and ‘anti-bio’. This is a fascinating examination of how we create the story of our own lives – particularly if you’re a vain, self-publicist like the great Nobel-prize winning poet, Pablo Neruda.
An illuminating, fascinating and finally very moving meditation on time and place and the enduring importance of memory, curiosity, courage and conscience. In the vast Atacama Desert, astronomers peer deep into the cosmos in search for answers concerning the origins of life. Nearby, a group of women sift through the sand searching for the bodies of loved ones, dumped unceremoniously by Pinochet's regime.
